Hi, I have read some post about Amsterdam and its seedyness. I waswondering what travelers have to say about the Red Light District inAmsterdam. I havent read anything in tour books about Red Light Districts.What can I expect in Amsterdam. I am from New York City so I think I haveseen it all. Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer: It's nice. Don't believe all those stories on violence. Seedy? Not at all,it's a funny place to go, especially for you decent Yorkers ;-)

I've shown the neighborhood to an american friend, and he was quite amazed.The atmosphere was much more friendly than he expected. He also was surprisedto see so many females watching the hookers, something you never see in otherred light districts.

In the summer the red light district is crowded with foreign people(from the ships, tourists).

About the drugs: of course there is a chance that you get offered some,but mostly a simple 'no, thanks' will do. My experience is that those peopleare not agressive at all.
