I am wanting to visit the Netherlands in 2004 for a week or so. But I'm in my late 20s and single... so I have no one to go with. (I am the most successful of my friends, which is a mixed blessing, as they never have money to do this kind of thing with me.) So... are there any travel tours/companies that cater to singles and could put me together with a group of folks in a similar situation?

Just go to a hostel - if you want privacy when you sleep, pick someplace like Kabul or Flying Pig that also has single rooms. They're very social places. Any time I've stayed in a hostel for more than a couple days I easily made friends to go out with. Also, your friends may be overestimating the cost. For $600 start-to-finish you can spend a week in Amsterdam including airfare from east coast USA, food, drinks, transportation, etc. You just have to go in the off-season and budget a little.
